College Station is blessed to have a good solid old school good times punk rock band like The Hangouts in residence.  They have that early ‘80s southern California breakneck punk rock sound down pat with a chick singer that has sass, swing and a really fucking mean upper cut.  Probably the most fun you’ll have in the put at Loudfest this year.

You know those really awesome instrumental intros to so many killer classic ‘80s thrash metal songs?  They’d always be slower, kinda evil, kinda math-y and prog with really cool intertwining harmony bass/guitar lines .  B/CS instrumental math-metal trio Drapetomania composes entire songs out of just those really awesome intro parts, making them in my humble opinion pretty much the best metal band in the Brazos Valley barnone.

Deep inside the mists of the guerrilla fog emerges the deep rumblings of E-flat on an old analog synthesizer, the foghorn clarity of twin bass amps feeding back, like Gregorian chant droning through sandblasted protocol droid circuitry spliced and resoldered with paperclip metal.  What you are witnessing is the mindmeld of College Station’s The Tron Sack.  For their Loudfest performance they welcome the addition of theremin, tapes & ring modulation.  Better spark it up and hit that plateau before these dudes take the stage.

It has been four years since I moved to Texas and I have yet to see a better band in this state than Humble’s The Hot Things.  Imagine Karen O fronting an early Motley Crue who has only punk rock cassettes in their beat-up Pintos.  And you are really only part of the way there.  The Hot Things is the kinda band you really need to see on a Saturday night.

Very little is known about Austin’s Tow The Line.  I could make up something that would make you think they were criminals or damn dirty apes or damn dirty primate criminals but really, I think a quick trip to their website will tell you more than pictures or a worm-eaten blurb could say.  That Tow The Line make a sing-a-long metal-inspired alt-rock/punk hybrid with superhero drumming, powerful hooks and huge guitars that recalls Superchunk and Chavez at the same time.  What would that be?  Power-math alterna-pop punk?  OK!
