I can’t believe I am doing yet another article involving Apples business ethics. I wish i were making this shit up. Alas, here is the latest. No matter what your personal opinion is, the new apple parent will most likely revolutionize the way you look at mobile security. The patent is titled “Systems and Methods for Identifying Unauthorized Users of an Electronic Device” and boasts radical new security methods for all future iPhones and iPads. When you read about this new stuff it all sounds great until you really think about what they are doing. In case you live under a rock let me recap some of the new features:

* Their servers will remotely detect when you customize your phone in any way.
* It will have the ability to disable your modified phone as they see fit.
* It will have the ability to take pictures and video of you remotely without you knowing.
* They will also be able to record audio from your iPhone or iPad and identity your unique heartbeat signature.

They say its for your own safety. Sure, I guess it could be. If someone steals your iPhone then apple will know because suddenly your voice changed. After all they know everything, because they will have been listening to your conversations. Another sign of ill activity is that your GPS location is suddenly rapidly changing from its normal patterns and this heartbeat pattern doesn’t match the normal patterns… Bam your phone is shut down remotely and rendered useless to the thief. How cool is that?! Really cool as long as it was actually stolen in the first place. Oh yeah Actually you were on vacation and your sister was holding your phone for a while. Too bad your phone is disabled anyway. Funny, I thought that was called invasion of privacy… Call it security though and everyone loves it. It’s for your own good, remember? It would be great technology if only YOU had control over it. Do you trust Apple to not turn your phones camera on and watch you get naked? Why not just have a security feature where you can log in through a secure web browser application and control / disable your stolen phone? After all im sure YOU will know better than anyone weather your shit is stolen or not. Wait a min… ANDRIOD PHONES CAN ALREADY DO THAT! We have had this technology for years now on Android. Its an app called Mobile Defense and it is a free download. YOU Deside if your phone is stolen. YOU look at your stolen phones GPS location, drive over their and give someone a very personal visit. “Hello sir, my name is Mossberg and I’m looking for my fucking phone. Have you seen it?” With apple you just get to sit around and Hope that Apple isn’t watching you shower. BTW Congratulations Apple for once again doing what you do best. Take some old Android Tech, call it brand new, and remove user control over it.

A patent (pronounced /ˈpætənt/ or /ˈpeɪtənt/) is a set of exclusive rights granted by a state (national government) to an inventor or their assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for a public disclosure of an invention.

WTF did they Invent? If that shit flys in court then I should get a patent made for inventing the fucking light bulb. Do yourself a favor and get a DroidX next time.

This is the first Quakecon to occur since ID was acquired by Zenimax. There have been some drastic changes this year and I am left with a lot of mixed emotions.

The new registration process was phenomenal. The overall setup and hard work everyone put into everything was very impressive…

That being said, it just didn’t feel the same at all. This year someone decided that it would be a good idea to ban file sharing in the BYOC. BAN FILE SHARING?! Quakecon is supposed to be Americas largest and most awesome LAN party. Tell me, What kind of shitty ass LAN party BANS FILE SHARING?! This year, there was nothing that I could do in the BYOC, that I couldn’t have done better and faster at home. With Steam not working at all and Quake Live running hit or miss there is really not much to do in the BYOC. I thought it was especially ironic when they announced a special Quakecon 2010 Gaming package. During Quakecon only, you can buy every game ID and Bethesda has ever made for only $70! Heres the catch, Its through STEAM! You cant even log into Steam when your at Quakecon!!! LOL ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! They literally said you should probably leave so you could go buy it. What a Cluster Fuck. You would think that at least Quake Live would work well at Quakecon right? Wrong. It ran great when it worked but the connection was so hit or miss it made you not even want to play it.

Back in olden times, we used to hang out in the BYOC all night! We would drink outrageous amounts of BAWLS energy drinks and browse other users computers and see what kind of weird shit they had to offer. EVERYONES games worked because with file sharing, everyone had the same games. DC++ was the LIFE FORCE behind the BYOC. Now that it’s gone you might as well just get a general admission pass and just look around for a few hours and then leave. File Sharing is no more illegal than is sharing a piece of birthday cake. Any website you have ever viewed is proof of this. If you are trying to stop software piracy…well then your going to have to kill the internet all together (good luck with that).

There was no Bawls booth this year and the only answer I could get out of anyone is that they went bankrupt. I remember last year they had an entire booth made up of cases of Bawls. They couldn’t truck that shit in fast enough. I saw a few people this year that must have brought their own and i know they still sell that shit at the store! So whats the deal with that? Whatever the reason for them not being there, it just added to the failure.

Needless to say we checked out of the hotel early and came home yesterday out of sheer boredom and frustration. Something that I have never EVER done. I’m really glad I got to check out RAGE, BRINK, and Fallout 4. John Carmack’s keynote speech was incredibly insightful. It made coming to Quakecon all worth it. I do not regret making the trip, but I do regret bringing my computer.

I am just thankful that I was not one of the many people that drove from across the whole damn country to come to Quakecon this year. If there had been a “NO FILE SHARING” announcement months ago, I am willing to bet that most of us wouldn’t have bothered to participate in the BYOC at all.

For those of you who have never been, Heres a video of me doing a quick walk through:

I hate when people say one thing and then do another. It’s not acceptable and if you are a business owner you know that that shit does not fly. So why is it ok for giant software companies to do it? Here’s the deal, I don’t like when my computer does things that I didnt tell it to do. I can’t stand programs that try and secretly connect to their mother ship to report my whereabouts and habits. Call me paranoid. What software company would do such a thing you may ask? Well Adobe for starters. When you launch a CS3 or later Adobe application , your computer secretly connects to what looks like an local IP address 192.168.112.2O7.net

Wait something is wrong here. If you take a close look at this address, the last “numbers” of the IP address (2O7) look funny. Thats because it’s not a zero its actually the letter ‘O’. Also, IP address don’t end in any .com/net/org suffix. This is a website pretending to be something it’s not.

Turns out that 192.168.112.2O7.net is owned by Omniture, a huge behavioral analytics firm. They want to know what you do in your spare time. Basically, They are spying on us. Sugar coat it any way you like but thats the bottom line and there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it… Or is there?

Don’t worry friend. I Will Teach You.

We are going to use Windows firewall to block those fuckers and make sure they never see a damn thing from your computer ever again. I’m using Windows 7 so if your using something else then this instructions are usless to you and you should just skip to the end or just go away and read another article. Go on. Clear out!

Ok so the first thing your going to do is push the windows key on your keyboard to bring up the start menu. Or if your one of those mouth breather types go ahead and use your mouse clicker device because it lights up when you move it. Oooh Shiney!

In the search bar type “%windir%\system32\WF.msc” and hit enter. Or copy and paste it like a smart kid. If you do it fast enough your friends will think your SUPER smart!
Welcome to the Windows Firewall Control Panel. On the left select “Outbound Rules” and then on the right select “New Rule”. Now your going to want to Select “Custom Rule” and then “All Programs”. Now it is going to show you a screen where it asks you Which ports and protocols this new rule will apply to. Go ahead and leave this alone and click next because we want this protection to apply everywhere at all times just in case. Now is the fun part. We are going to enter the IP address of the website we want to block. It is a Remote IP address on the lower set of boxes click “These IP addresses”, click “Add” and type your address. To block the Omniture fuckers we’re going to use the address “66.235.132.91″ without the quotes.
If you have a list of fuckers to block you can add all the addresses now and click next. Now your going to select the Block option because we obvoiuslly want to block this, otherwise we wouldnt be here in the first place! Click next a few more times, Give your new rule a funny name like “BLOCK ADOBE SPY FUCKERS” click next again and your all set! I also like to make rules like this for shitty websites that I hate like Yahoo.com That way if I let a friend use my computer I dont have to worry about them going to something retarded.
Here’s what mine looks like:Firewall_rule

If you are not using Windows 7, then at least I was able to inform you about Software Companies and their mass quantities of Douchbaggery. Add that one to your spell check dictionary!

On a side note, after writing this article I feel that I have really singled out Adobe as a wicked villain and thats not at all what I am trying to do. I love Adobe even if they are some sneaky little bastards. They make great products and in reality they probibly only use the data to see which Adobe products get the most use and it’s all perfectly legal in fine print. Their methods are just a little too invasive for my taste. Adobe is not the only company that does this sort of thing. Omniture works with hundreds of big name software firms some of which are probibly installed on your computer right now. Don’t even get me started on Apple’s shitty business operation. I could produce a whole blog on the horrible shit that they do. Anyway, Cheers. Have Fun!

WordPress 3.0 huh.. Well whats new? A few bug fixes maybe a shimmery new logo or something? Wrong. 3.0 Is packed full of so much awesome your pants will have combusted after reading this article. You may want to get a fire blanket ready. First of all During a new installation of 3.0 you can now

Choose your administrator Username!
In the older versions, WordPress automatically assigns the first user with the username “admin”. If you know anything about security, you will know the importance of this feature. Now the hackers cannot guess your username because it will no longer be “admin”. In the past those who were lazy and didn’t change their default username were helping hackers by giving them half the answer. You would be surprised how many people do this.

Welcome Guide in Every Installation
Back In the olden days it could be pretty confusing for new users to get used to WordPress. Now with 3.0 there is much better support. Help button will bring you the info you need right there where you need it most. It’s..very.. Helpful.

Everything updates at once
In Soviet Russia, Plugin updates YOU! But not any more; Not with 3.0. From this point on when you update WordPress your plugins will also update. No more hassle trying to keep everything together. For Justice!

Plugins that never Die
I hate when projects die because the guy that built it just gives up on it. Ever have a plugin like that? Support page just never updates the project goes stagnant and as WordPress updates it becomes incompatible. As of now the good folks at WordPress are attempting to unite the plugin authors and come up with canonical plugins. Canonical plugins are developed by a community instead of one developer, so if one person steps down, the plugin does not die. Open Source Baby.

Custom Post Types
This feature will allow you to have different type of posts. For example Portfolio Albums, Real Estate Listings, and then Normal posts. Call them whatever you want. This feature is great for web designers because it makes it easier to set up custom sites for the end user. If someone is a photographer it makes it easy to make different types of posts catered to their business. It works like categories but its more for organization.

The new update also includes 1,217 additional bug fixes and feature enhancements!
